The British Society of Magazine Editors is looking to nurture a new generation of young writers who have something to say, and it is doing this by launching an exciting new competition. And who better to launch it with than Caitlin Moran?
Open to talented 18-25 year olds across the UK, entrants are asked to write 800-1000 words about “something you love’, alongside a short personal statement.
In return, they’ll get the chance to win:
The deadline for submissions is 8 May 2026.
Caitlin Moran explains her motivation behind supporting the competition:
“At fifteen, I was on a council estate in Wolverhampton, obsessed with being a writer, clueless how to get there. Then I won a competition – and it changed everything.
Now I’m 50, and I want to do the same for someone else. If you think ‘people like me don’t win things like this’ – you’re exactly who this is for. Enter. Please. I can’t wait to read your work.”
If you know a budding journalist who is in need of an opportunity just like this, encourage them to enter now.
