Anthem shows its support for No Meat May

Here at Anthem, we aim to help people live healthier, happier lives and part of that is eating well, treating humans and animals with kindness and looking after the world around us.

We also publish the UK’s only dedicated vegan magazine, Vegan Food & Living, so No Meat May is a cause that’s very close to our hearts.

This year, we’re participating in No Meat May as a company-wide challenge and although many of us are already vegan or vegetarian, some of us are still at the start of our journey and looking to reduce our meat intake for environmental reasons.

The impact of meat

There have been numerous studies over the past decade that demonstrate the link between climate change and animal agriculture.

In 2018, a study by the University of Oxford concluded that a vegan diet was ‘the single biggest way’ to reduce our impact on the planet.

Meat requires huge amount of land and water and causes vast amounts of water pollution through animal waste. It’s also responsible for planet-warming carbon emissions through methane gas produced by cows reared for meat and dairy.

Even just switching to one plant-based meal a week can make a difference. In fact, it can save 19.2 million tonnes of Greenhouse Gas – that’s quite an impact!
